NYPD, Council Member Blame Shootings on Wings Promotion

New, 7 comments

The setup: The Atlantic Center mall location of Buffalo Wild Wings, a national wing chain, held a 40 cent wing promotion on Tuesday, like it does every Tuesday at practically every branch across the country. Because this week's promotion fell on the eve of a school holiday, gangs of teenagers swarmed the restaurant for the deal. Police were prepared and on the scene, but some "rogue groups" (per the NYPD) caused trouble after leaving the restaurant, two people were shot and one stabbed, all non-fatally.

Now, does this mean that a) there should be a greater effort to keep guns off the streets of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, b) a stronger police presence is needed at the mall on holidays, or c) the restaurant should be blamed for the crimes because of its "irresponsible management." City Council Member Letitia James chose the third option, and commenters on the Times' Local Blog are appropriately outraged.
