Artichoke Heading to Red Rock Space

New, 22 comments

Almost a year after news leaked that the Artichoke team was looking to expand, the ZOMG successful pizza joint on 14th Street has finally settled on their second location. Cousins and partners Tony Basille and Francis Garcia are moving towards opening an Artichoke West in the former Red Rock on the corner of 17th and 10th. But it doesn't stop there.

Basille and Garcia are going beyond a simple slice joint and will convert the former dive bar into an 80 seat, sit down restaurant, allowing Basille and Garcia to showcase some of the dishes that were sporadically available (meatballs, cauliflower fritters) when Artichoke first opened and were developed at their family place in Staten Island. All four of their popular pies will also be available. The dynamic pizza duo will oversee the design and most of the renovations themselves, and a tipster tells us "they fell in love with the location when they realized there was hardly anything to eat in that area". Good point. It's more than a little ironic that every restaurateur is looking to open a pizza place, and now the pizza guys want to open a restaurant. Now, who's ready to sit down and attack an entire spinach and artichoke pie?
