Because opening a cupcake and booze bar Red Velvet in the Lower East Side isn't enough, Eldridge co-owner Cole Bernard and Eric Unger are poised to unveil the Yard, a conversion of the former Porky's space that, according to the press release evokes a growth from "the college hang out to the more grown up setting of various "yard" parties." Seriously. Instead of a more rowdy college crowds, the Yard will offer "party goers the kind of night where ladies will be dancing on the bar while everybody sings along to their favorite tunes." But Bernard promises that the fish bowl drinks and crazy nights will always be a part of the bar, no matter what they call it. That's a relief!
To execute the Yard concept, renowned artist Darren Boerkel channeled the great New York yards like the ship-yards of the South Street Seaport, the Citifield Junk yards and the neighborhood BBQ setting in Brooklyn, saying "be it your backyard, school yard, junkyard, bus yard, train yard, lumberyard, or boatyard. We all had some sort of yard in our neighborhood to play in. This is where we let our imagination go wild. And that's just what I'm going to do." Let that sink in for a minute. The Yard opens this weekend with "a wide list of celebrities, a daytime pub crawl, and the best Halloween party in town", and then the world will explode.
