Anthony and Tom Martignetti are putting the final touches on Brinkley's, their take on a neighborhood pub, that is set to open this Sunday. The brothers and partners explained that Brinkley's is a complete redo of the former Bar Martignetti, which wasn't the original plan when they decided to close in January, 2009. According to Anthony, "when we closed originally, we were going to spend 3 or 4 months making some minor changes to the place. We wound up starting over." Brinkley's aspires to be a traditional neighborhood joint, serving locally sourced food and New York wines and beers.
Expect a variety of bar snacks, small plates and entrees, of which only the striped bass will cost more than $20. But since local food from small purveyors is often more expensive, Brinkley's is making an effort to keep costs down and still deliver the goods. Tom explains, "our chicken comes from North Jersey, and we are still serving a half chicken. But instead of the breast, customers will get two legs and the back." Continuing the meat wave trend, they will also be serving up five varieties of sausage and potentially a hot dog or two, and while there are two shiny flat screens behind the bar, they will only be turned on for major sporting events. According to Tom, "don't expect to come in here on a Wednesday night and find ESPN on." Unfortunately, the people at Sixpoint are a bit overextended to deliver the rumored Brinkley's British Ale, but the 8 beer lines are in and ready to go.
Brinkley's, which will seat around 100 people will start off serving only dinner from 5PM to 1AM (2AM on weekends), and will slowly expand their hours as the restaurant develops. Friends and family is Friday and Saturday and then its off to the races. Do stop by and say hello.
