Adventures in Shilling #049: THE Forge Edition

New, 1 comment

It's time for another edition of Adventures in Shilling, in which we fight shilling the best way we can, by shaming tasteless, unscrupulous shills into submission. Well, that's the plan, at least. Fight shills yourself by dropping offensive links to tips@eater.com

2009_01_forgemiami.jpgYesterday's news that the owners of Tribeca's Forge are going to change the name of the restaurant due to a somewhat petty lawsuit brought forward by the owner of Miami's The Forge (who wants to expand to NYC soon), has spurred a fair bit of debate among bloggers including the Bruni and our commenters. It's also inspired some of the most brazen shilling we've ever seen on the site. We provide our favorites below, omitting the usual probability percentages as they all fall in the 95-100% range. Please Miami, breathe:

"The Forge is a Miami landmark much like Peter Luger is to New York...The Forge is a bastion of excellence, as it has been for decades. To confuse a neo-steakhouse in NYC with the landmark in Miami would be a travesty." [Commenter #3]

"The Forge in Miami is more than a steakhouse on the beach. It’s a culinary feat. I have dined there several times throughout my 5 year residency in Miami Beach and have been amazed at each encounter. The Forge’s reputation for an outstanding dining experience, a world-class wine cellar, and the ability to attract celebrities, musicians, artists, politicians and locals on a weekly basis has been earned. There are countless articles written in every major national newspaper, magazine and website regarding The Forge’s achievements and its knack for dining success. [Commenter #12]

"The restaurant not only serves the best food in South Florida it also supports numerous charities and other worthy causes...So you may say, 'What's in a name?' Well when the name is the Forge, it is first, Amazing top quality food, service, great music, beautiful people and a landmark establishment. [Commenter #4]

"...they were trying to capitalize on the good name and excellant reputation (The Forge Miami) of an outstanding eatery thats going global! For the previous blogger to suggest that it was just their naivete is insulting to the diners in New York and Miami. The Miami landmark is a 'value' priced ,high-end steak house that is rich in 40 years of Miami Beach history,is resplendent in magnificent antiques, has one of the best wine cellars in the country and the best steak in Florida. I always make it a point to visit there when in Miami. I hope that Mr. Malnik quickly opens one in the City so we can enjoy the genuine article!" [Commenter #7]

"How can anybody NOT like The Forge! The outside facade alone will draw you in, especially at night when dramatically lit; breathtaking! On Wednesday nights, the ONLY place to be is at The Forge for dinner. Fantastic food, the hottest action and the hippest celebrity factor in Miami Beach! DJ Irie is a staple on Wednesday nights, keeping it fresh with music from the ‘80’s to today to accommodate every taste and style. The guy just can’t miss!" [Commenter 18]
