Thursday Opening Report: Atria Certified Open, Cornelius on Monday, Schnipper's Next Week

Minetta Tavern in Plywood Days

1) Greenwich Village: TONY reports that Keith McNally’s makeover of Minetta Tavern is ready for its unveiling this week. They write: “Eight months after its shuttering, the former Hemingway haunt has new blood, including an updated kitchen, but its most beloved elements—the bar, murals and tin ceiling—remain. Expect old-world comfort foods (roasted marrow bones, crispy pigs’ trotters), as well as the celebrated Black Label burger from Pat LaFrieda.” Status: Not Open. Projection is it could open as early as next week, but we await final word. 113 MacDougal Street; 212-475-3850. [TONY]

2) Midtown: As previously reported, the eatery fka Grayz will reopen as Atria. Flo Fab reports that it will open today and writes; “Gray Kunz had not been closely involved with Grayz since last spring and left the cooking to his chef de cuisine, Martin Brock. Now, with Mr. Kunz out of the picture entirely, they have renamed it, with the downstairs for à la carte dining again; as Grayz, it was a party room. Mr. Brock is executive chef. The upstairs is a bar and lounge. A discounted menu this month will have three courses at lunch for $24.07 and dinner for $35.” Status: Certified Open. 13-15 W. 54th Street; 212-262-4600. [NYT]

3) East Village: Continuing the theme of re-openings, the space that formerly held Seymour Burton will open as Butcher Bay. TONY reports it will open doors this week, and writes of the menu/concept retooling: “The offerings skew toward seafood—whole lobsters, local clams and oysters are piled onto an ice-filled zinc raw bar—while terrestrial dishes include a kosher chicken that is soaked in buttermilk and then fried. What of the famous Burton burger? Alas, it is no more, though a pan-seared Salisbury steak sandwich with onion gravy takes its place.” Status: Official word is they're at 10 days out from friends and family, barring delays. 511 E 5th Street; 212-260-1333. 4) Prospect Heights: And fresh from plywood, TONY has the lowdown on the opening of Cornelius this week: “from the owners of Le Gamin, Soda Bar and Franklin Park. Drink options include a large selection of American whiskeys, as well as wines, beers and a brief cocktail list. Small plates (oyster shooters, pulled-pork sliders, head-on shrimp with fried lemons and creamed leeks) are crafted by former Freemans sous chef Michelle Hanna.” Status: Not Open. Opening Monday. 565 Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights; 718-398-6662. [TONY]

5) Midtown: Update: On Monday we shared TONY's report that Schnipper's Quality Kitchen would open this week. Today, Midtown Lunch shares this update on the situation: "It looks like TONY jumped the gun a bit in reporting the opening of Schnipper’s Quality Kitchen in the New York Times Building (on 41st & 8th). The owner tells me they hope to open at the end of next week, or early the week after. " Status: Not Open. Opening "hopefully" by the end of next week. NYTImes Building. 620 8th Avenue; 212-921-2400.
