Plywood Super Special: A Look at Scuderia

New, 3 comments

West Village: Though it may not look like much during the heavy construction phase, the restaurant space above will open as Scuderia in approximately one month. Remember this is the other 10 Downing, 10 Downing south, seen here, once linked to both Ken Friedman and team Boqueria. Last year the restaurant was finally taken oven by Silvano Marchetto—owner of Da Silvano right across the street— his daughter, his GM, and another Italian restaurateur.

According to Marchetto's daughter Leyla, it will be a casual and late night answer to their swankier mainstay across the street. The project has been delayed for over four months by the usual wrangling with the DOB, but the all important CB2 liquor license approval is in place, and the partners expect to make the Feb. goal. But let's get down to brass tacks, shall we?

The space will fit about 110 seats including seats in the dining room, a few tables with stools by the bar, a communal chef's table near the quasi-open kitchen, and a mezzanine area. Machetto tells us she's still unsure as to whether they'll make that space a VIP area, a private dining room, or a spot for drinks and small plates.

The menu, helmed by chef Claudio Cristofoli (formerly at Cipriani Downtown), is a mix of apps, salads, paninis, pizzas and pastas from $6-18, with some main courses in the mid-$20s. The focus, says Marchetto, is an American interpretation of rustic Italian trattoria fare. Of course, there will be a Scuderia Hamburger.

When the restaurant is fully operational they plan to open for breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner (until 2 a.m.), with delivery, but they will start with dinner in February. More info will be available here.
