The Shutter Report: Chicken n Beer, Au Bon Pain, and Trouble in Cobble Hill

New, 6 comments

A number of restaurants served their last over the holidays, and we suspect it's not going to end here. Know of a restaurant that has met its demise? Let us know

1) Chelsea: BBQ Chicken & Beer on 7th and 22nd has closed due to "unfortunate cicumstances." [ShutterWire]

2) Union Square: Tisserie isn't the only sandwich/baked goods spot to leave Union Square recently. A tipster reports that the Au Bon Pain on 5th and 15th is closed and gutted. [Shutter Inbox]

3) Cobble Hill: The Brooklyn Paper reported last week that the year and a half old Margaret Palca Bakes will close at the end of the month: "'I had such a wrong impression [about Court Street],' said Palca. 'It’s just such a ‘has-been’ kind of street. I hoped it would be more popular and more busy [than the Columbia Street store], but it just hasn’t been.'" [BP]

4) Cobble Hill: Back before the New Year Brunch Anytime reported another shutter: "Jill's on Smith Street is now closed, leaving an empty storefront right next to the empty Miriam spot. The sign said that it closed Dec 29th and that the owner decided to focus on a 'new venture while continuing cleanses and other products in 2009.'" [BA]

5) Harlem: Meanwhile, Uptown Flavor noticed both the SugarHill Juice Bar on 145th and St. Nicholas and Butterfly Blue at 1813 Amsterdam have been shuttered. [UF]
