East Village: Next week, the all powerful Community Board 3 SLA Licensing meets to deem which new restaurant and bar applicants are worthy of a coveted East Village liquor license. Over a dozen will go before the board, but two applicants caught our attention, especially in light of last year's shuttering of comedy spot Rififi.
First, it looks like the Upright Citizen's Brigade is trying to take over the recently shuttered Two Boots Pioneer Theater at 155 East 3rd Street. If successful, that would mean the UCB Theater's avid fans and comedy nerds would be able to skip the trek to Chelsea, perhaps thinning out those persistent lines for tickets. But they aren't the only comedy club looking to serve the liquor.
Also on the agenda: Eastville Comedy Club, applying for a license at 85 East 4th Street, right below the neighborhood staple KGB Bar. We're not sure how the CB3 will feel about awarding another liquor license in the same building, but we're guessing it's going to be a fight. (Note they already list alcohol on their menu.) Stay tuned for the full report next week.
