Hells Kitchen: EV Grieve was on the right track last week when it reported that beloved and grimy Hell's Kitchen dive The Holland Bar looked to be reopening. The Times explains today that the bar, which shuttered last summer when the landlord refused to renew the lease, will reopen as soon as tomorrow. As a sign that there is some silver lining to this crap economy, the landlord, who originally wanted to convert or sell the building, eventually changed his mind. He offered the lease back to Holland's owner earlier this month, albeit at a 20% increase. Sadly, the place had been gutted, the bar destroyed, the memorabilia given away. But whether the framed pictures are there or not, the regulars, who have decamped to other Hell's Kitchen bars, sound anxious to return.
