Merkato 55 Moves Closer to Becoming Nightclub, Loses Weekday Hours for Jan.

Meatpacking: We figured back when Merkato 55 opened in a giant space in MePa last February that the next logical step for its survival would be to become a club. Based on the launch of Bijoux, the club/lounge underneath the restaurant, and the copious coverage on party photo site Guest of a Guest, things seems to be going in that direction. Oh, and this: There is a sign outside the restaurant alerting customers that Merkato 55 is now only open on Friday and Saturday nights. Workers at the restaurant say that they plan on going back to their regular hours next month, but we'll file that one under waitandsee. Some good news: they say Angelo Sosa is still involved.
