EaterWire: House of Pizza and Calzone, Banning Trans Fats in Boston, Bourdain on Celeb Chefs, and More

New, 3 comments

CARROLL GARDENS— Lost City has an update on the renovation of the House of Pizza and Calzone in Carroll Gardens: "The new facade will be all glass, with a glass door to the left, and a sliding glass unit, four panels wide, to the right. This, I imagine, will give the place an airy new feel. The new counter remains to the right as you walk in...a red brick arch in the back leads to a new dining area that reaches into the former backyard of the property." [Lost City]

WEST VILLAGE— And in case anyone's wondering what's to become of the Mama Buddha space, the sign has been updated. It will become an HSBC, not a "shitty boutique." [EaterWire]

BOSTON— And coming in over the nanny state wire, we find out Boston is following New York's lead and has banned trans fats, effective last Saturday. [Boston Globe]

CELEB CHEFS— Anthony Bourdain and Marco Pierre White discussed many topics at a Star Chefs International Chefs Congress roundtable yesterday. On topic: Enough with the 18-course tasting menus; marquee chef restaurants aren't worth going to, with the exception of maybe "Saint Thomas" (Keller); chefs shouldn't be bullies in the kitchen, especially Gordon Ramsay; emulate Mario if you want to be a TV chef. And about that celebrity chefdom: "Is it a worthy goal for a chef? No. You're f---ed if you're going into the business for that reason," says Bourdain. [SE via Eater LA]
