A number of new restaurants will throw preview parties this fall, but none will trump last night's bizarre soiree at new West Village spot De Santos. The food was bafflingly terrible (sad bread topped with deli meats, melted cheese) and the space was nothing special. But we've never spotted so many photographers, video cameras, reporters, and hangers on at an opening. We heard the owner was the drummer of Mexican band Maná, but it was last night that we learned it's the biggest band to ever come out of Latin America (we mean selling out the Garden big). Hence, the Telemundo contingent. We question how New Yorkers will receive the restaurant, but now we know they've already got a fanbase. [EaterWire]
