Monday Opening Report: Apiary Opens Thursday, Vintage Irving Friday

This is the Monday Opening Report, a regular feature that provides the precise status of venues. As per standard operating procedure around here, your contributions are so very welcome.


1) East Village: The much-delayed plywood vet Apiary is reported open this week by NYMag, a partnership venture between designer Ligne Roset and hospitality maven Jenny Moon. They write: “Ligne Roset is responsible for the space’s design, but the food falls under the culinary jurisdiction of Neil Manacle, former chef de cuisine of Bar Americain and Bolo. It makes sense, given his history, that spice figures prominently in dishes like red snapper crudo and seviche with Persian cucumbers and serrano chiles, smoked-paprika-rubbed pork tenderloin, and spice-crusted lamb with fried hummus." 2) Union Square: Bottomless Dish had the early word on falafel/schnitzel joint Pita Joe back in May, and today NYMag reports it will open this week beneath ladies workout mecca Lucille Roberts. They write: “As at Delectica, his Murray Hill café, chef-partner Erez Cohen takes a nutritionally minded, environmentally friendly approach, using organic chickpeas, flour, and eggs, and packaging takeout orders in eco-containers.” Status: Not Open. 3) Union Square: Lady Strongbuzz reported last week that Proof/Village Pourhouse owner Michael Sinensky will open Vintage Irving tomorrow, a wine bar and small plates spot. NYMag also shares some details today. Here’s some menu info from the Strongbuzz: “The menu at Vintage Irving will feature many small entrée-like dishes encouraging tables to order many to share, like the Contamplano Salad—Spanish chorizo with white beans, white asparagus, buffalo mozzarella, red pepper and olive tapenade, Bouillabaisse stocked with shrimp, clams, calamari, mussels, and topped with a rouille-slathered crouton, and a grilled shell steak with bleu cheese mashed potatoes, red onion confit, and a port wine reduction.” Status: Not Open.
