This is the Thursday Opening Report, a regular feature that provides the precise status of venues. As per standard operating procedure around here, your contributions are so very welcome.
1) Soho: Thrillist reports on the opening of PetalBelle, a new cafe and patisserie that specializes in Belgian “liege” waffles. A correspondent also writes us with the following early review: “It was nice, if rather low-key. A very small menu consisting of the liege waffles (not made to order, but prepared in advance and put on display, like any other pastry), a couple of other pastries, four flavors of gelato, and basic coffee drinks.” Status: Certified Open. 158 Sullivan Street; 212.677.1580. 2) Midtown: Chain mania continues with the opening of yet another branch of Chipotle reports Midtown Lunch. No free burritos however: “The newest Midtown Chipotle (on 50th & Park) is having their Grand Opening tonight, but there will be no free burritos. Instead, a $5 donation to charity will get you a free meal and fountain drink until 9 p.m. Tomorrow, they’ll be open for regular business at 11 a.m.” Status: Certified Open. 320 Park Avenue; 212-754-3098. [Midtown Lunch]
3) Midtown: Midtown Lunch also sends out a free food alert for tomorrow at the opening of another Pret-a-Manger on 48th and 3rd. But the details for getting the free grub are a bit complex: “On Friday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. they’ll be giving out flyers for a free Pret goodie bag, which can be redeemed after 12:15 p.m. At previous openings the goodie bag contained half a sandwich, a bag of popcorn, a brownie, and a coupon for a free cup of coffee. Not too shabby. If they haven’t given out all the goodie bags by around 1:30, they may start to give out more flyers at the door- so if you don’t manage to score a flyer on Friday morning, you can still try to snag your free food sans flyer.” Status: Not Open. Opening tomorrow. 3rd Ave between 47th and 48th Street, no phone yet. [Midtown Lunch]
