Last November it was reported that Todd English would open his restaurant in the Thompson Group's Gild Hall by early April. That projected opening came and went, and we hadn't heard much of it since. Until now that is. The official press release just arrived on our doorstep announcing the Fall 2008 arrival of English's Libertine. The restaurant will take up two floors, evoke a "cozy yet sleek London Clubhouse of the 1970s," and offer up small plates, a raw bar, and items such as caviar sliders (paging Adam Kuban) and Berkshire pork chop schnitzel. The exec chef will be Eben Leonard of Bonfire in Boston and Olive's in NYC. If it does actually open in September it should be the place to watch, as Todd English fans (and Fidi residents) have been waiting on this one for awhile. But let's take a look at the full release:
NEW YORK—(July 21, 2008) Internationally renowned chef Todd English has just announced plans to open The Libertine, his newest dining destination located in the Thompson Hotel Group's stylish Gild Hall. Classic meets contemporary at this culinary hotspot where Todd English reinterprets pub fare to bring you the ultimate modern English tavern. The menu features traditional favorites with sly twists, creative small plates, and a full raw bar. Guests will dine on crispy oyster and avocado Caesar salad, caviar sliders, and Berkshire pork chop schnitzel with peaches and greens, while the lively bar showcases imaginative house cocktails, an impeccably curated artisan beer selection and an impressive wine list. The upstairs Library Bar will offer full dining, as well as an extensive spirit and cordial menu.
Overseeing the cuisine with English will be Executive Chef Eben Leonard, a native New Yorker and longtime senior member of Todd English's culinary team. Most recently, Chef Leonard was the Executive Chef of Todd English's Bonfire Restaurant in Boston. Prior to that, Chef Leonard was at Olives NY in Union Square for six years.

The Libertine will be located at 15 Gold Street in New York's Wall Street District, in the Jim Walrod-designed Gild Hall, currently one out of 8 hotels for Thompson Hotels.
