'Bucks Spot Check: Starbucks Trying to Stay Relevant, Launches Smoothie Effort

Per the announcement yesterday, the one-size-only Vivannos (The 'Bucks' first foray into non-coffee or tea drinks) made their debut today. A 4 p.m. Eater spot check to the store on Spring and Varick revealed the following: signage completely out of control (all window, door, and chalkboard real estate was devoted to pushing these suckers), a man unsuccessfully hawking the free samples on the street, and a total of five smoothies sold in one half hour. An appraisal: the Chocolate Banana Vivanno had a muddled flavor aptly described by one customer as “interesting." Meanwhile, those crazy kids over at Serious Eats are calling them "not horrible."
