Subject: FOH Breakdown at Centro Vinoteca
——
We walked in to Centro Vinoteca at 7:55 on Friday night, so we knew we would have to wait. They told us it would be an hour. No problem. But as more and more people came in, they kept quoting the wait as one hour. After an hour passed we checked in politely to ask how much longer, and she said 15 minutes. We were finally sat at 10pm, which is fine, but if it's going to be 2 hours, tell me upfront.
The two top ahead of us were originally told 15 minutes when they first called, so they had gotten a babysitter (they lived in the neighborhood). They waited an hour and a half before complaining. The host (who spent his whole evening kissing people's cheeks and kissing ass instead of helping get people out the door) said sorry there is nothing we can do and tried sitting them at a bar table. They eventually left.
When we sat down the service could have been a lot faster. It took forever to get water, to get menus. They really weren't turning tables the way they could have been, and our waiter only had four tables. Also the chef was walking around the whole night, kissing people's cheeks, oblivious to the fact that everyone was annoyed and hungry and had been waiting forever!!
