Cha-Chum! The Chumley's Building Losing Floors

New, 14 comments

West Village: We have no idea what the above shot means for the projected opening date of the shuttered West Village legend Chumley's, but it doesn't look good. What you see here is the almost completely dismantled second and third floors of the bar's notoriously unstable building. The roof, the facade: gone. If this is something we have to lose in order for Chumley's to re-open, fine. They can take the floors away like they did the chimney. What's more likely though is this is a sign that the reconstruction effort is bigger than owner Steve Shlopak first imagined. Remember, the place has been on the track to reopen for over a year now.
