EaterWire: Big Name Chefs at City Harvest Ball, Gavin Kaysen on His New Found Fame

New, 2 comments

MIDTOWN EAST— Touted as the "biggest fundraiser of the year" City Harvest will throw their 14th annual Practical Magical Ball tomorrow night at Cipriani 42nd St. This event is a big deal for NYC celebs, but more importantly, it's usually packed with NYC chefs. This year chefs Eric Ripert, Tom Colicchio, Donatella Arpaia, Terrence Brennan and Michael Psilakas will be there along with Katie Lee Joel and Rocco DiSpirito. [EaterWire]

UPPER EAST SIDE— Metromix interviews Gavin Kaysen chef at Cafe Boulud and the only New Yorker nominated for a 'rising star chef' award from the James Beard Foundation this year. He discusses his favorite New York restaurants, living in the same building as Eric Ripert, and what it feels like to receive all the accolades: "It’s great—it’s a great honor; it’s a great feeling. It’s exciting to have guests come in and know about it. That’s taken me the most by surprise. When you’re in another city, you don’t get the same fan appeal, or the craze, or the buzz. It’s more intense here. Everybody knows, and it’s like—voomp." [Metromix]
