Plywood Report: Rumblings in Midtown, Park Slope, Ditmas Park

New, 2 comments

Once a dry cleaners, now raw potential in Park Slope

1) Midtown East: Could Midtown be getting a new chain from Brussels? From the inbox: "Where Nicole Farhi and restaurant Nicole's used to be on 60th btwn Madison & 5th - signs have gone up in the window that some place to be named Rouge Tomate. (It also says that they won't open until Fall 08?) After some research of what it might be seems to say that they already have a location in Brussels." [PLYWOOD]

2) Park Slope: Looks like some serious construction is taking place in the Slope (above). A tipster writes: "Something new is going in at the corner of 5th Ave. and 1st St. in Park Slope. This is across 2nd street from Commerce Bank. The dry cleaners that was there closed several months back. Now it appears to be a restaurant/bar going in there. No details beyond that. They went from old wall to open wall to full frame in half a day and now the windows are all covered up so the inside is a secret." [PLYWOOD]

3) Midtown East: And here's some new intel about the possible new tenant of the old Dona space: "A gentlemen (possibly the work site manager) informed me that a restaurant from Milan (with a celebrity following) will be taking over the space! It is not a daughter or son of a Bice either." [PRE-PLYWOOD]

4) Park Slope: Nolita Ethiopian restaurant, Ghenet, is opening a new branch in Park Slope. Says Brownstoner: "The Nolita Ethiopian restaurant Ghenet is going to open a branch on 4th and Douglass in the coming weeks. Ghenet is known for its vegetarian friendly, “accessible Ethiopian cooking,” according to New York Mag. The coming restaurant is directly across the street from the newish (and popular) Australian-themed Sheep Station." [PLYWOOD]

5) Ditmas Park: May not make ripples for the rest of the city, but watch out Ditmas Park— a new Tibetan restaurant is comin' to town. Per the Ditmas Park Blog: "The man behind the counter...showed me the space, which has room for about five sets of two small tables and four chairs, and green walls. He said they have their paperwork in order, and they're planning to open next month. He said it would be called something along the lines of 'Tibetan Restaurant.' [PLYWOOD]

6) Greenwich Village: Under the subject heading of "Bleecker & Sullivan" a tipster writes: "An awning was unveiled at the former Wok & Roll space for 'Thunder Jackson's Urban Roadhouse'. [PLYWOOD]
