Soho: Some sad holiday crime news: In what we're assuming were the wee hours of the morning (though it could have been late last night), vandals struck Spring Street's Fiamma. Some unidentified perps shattered the large glass front door of the restaurant, located inside a typical winter vestibule. The glass was still broken by the time a tipster happened by at 9 a.m., but the restaurant tells us they will be open as usual tonight and will have the repairs done by dinner service. They said they don't know the motivation for the attack and are leaving matters up to the NYPD.
Our tipster overheard officers saying this was the second case of vandalism this morning, but New York's Finest would neither confirm the rumor nor pony up additional details in the case.
