Monday Opening Report: Ost Cafe Certified Open, Mother's Likely Today

Ost Cafe on 12th and Avenue A, Certified Open

1) Lower East Side: Update: Last week we mentioned how cevicheria La Barra was reported open by NYMag but at the time we checked had a non-working phone number. Today, Thrillist checks in with some more details and claims it will open tomorrow: “Evocative of a cozy, beachside crudo shack, Barra's cheffed by a Veritas vet who partnered with three childhood buds from Mexico City, constant companions ever since he started feeding them for free. Food's mostly ceviches (red snapper, scallops or octopus, jicama a.k.a. the lucha libre-sounding 'Mexican turnip').” Grub Street also confirms that it will open manana. Status: Opening for dinner tomorrow, lunch on Wednesday. 250 Broome Street; 212-260-3900. [Thrillist]

2) Williamsburg: As mentioned earlier today, Mighty Diamond on Graham Avenue is reopening this week as Mother’s, a new pub from the owners of Daddy’s. More per the tipster: "'This is not gourmet or fancy-schmancy,' Rogers acknowledged of Mother's deliberately pared-down approach, stressing the fact that customers looking for a DuMont-caliber burger will be disappointed 'It's somewhere in the middle.' Status: Signs point to opening tonight. 347 Graham Avenue, Williamsburg; 718-384-7778. [Eater Inbox]

3) East Village: As reported previously in plywood, Ost Café, is a new Eastern European coffee shop on the corner of 12th and A, now certified open today via walk-by. From their Facebook page: “The cafe is the brainchild of local husband-and-wife team Aaron Hagedorn, a Veteran of the US Navy, and his wife Katarina, an ex-model originally from the Slovak Republic, who partnered with Alex Clark, a stand-up comedian and Lenka O, another Slovakia's model export. From the layers of history evident in its Hapsburg Empire-meets-OstBlock décor, OST is just the sort of warm, welcoming home away from home that the East Village has been crying out for.” Status: Certified Open. 441 E. 12th Street; 212-477-5600.
