The Shutter: Deathwatched Devin Tavern Officially Dunzo

Tribeca: We've been hearing rumors over the past week that trouble was afoot at the long Deathwatched Devin Tavern, but officials at the restaurant kept brushing off our inquiries with the elusive "We're not closing at this time." Perhaps true in the first half of the week, they sure are closing at this time. From the blog of a bartender there:

"...you can imagine my dismay when I got the official word that Devin is closing. The plummeting stock market and financial woes of the banks (whose employees make up the majority of our clientele) just killed it...It was great while it lasted."

You really do hate to see that. This place was troubled long before the economy tanked—plagued by frequent chef shuffles, an oft sparse, over-sized dining room—but we're sure present conditions did the final number on it. Kudos for the team for outlasting the DW committee's prediction by over a year.
