Brunibetting: Kurve

New, 6 comments

Tomorrow, the moment we've all been waiting for will finally arrive when Frank Bruni reviews Kurve. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:

Zero Stars: 3-1
One Star: 4-1 ??
Two Stars: 20-1
Three Stars: 100-1
Four Stars: 25,000-1
Sweet, sweet, wonderful, sweet Kurve. Bruni has been chomping at the bit to review this monster since back in August and has blogged about the frustrating phone system twice. So, he's pumped. So are we. Here is how it's going to go: Bruni will spend a modicum of his word count on Yang's success at Rhong Tiam, he'll chronicle Kurve's botched opening over the summer, will note the impossible phone system, and will spend a great deal of time musing about the spaceship decor, the neon lights, the airplane-like bathroom, and the waiter uniforms. It has the potential of an incredibly entertaining goose egg, because the restaurant is just that obnoxious. But here's where it gets interesting. During a preview of the place, the food was almost impressive. It's well documented Yang can cook, and there's no doubt he's putting out decent, somewhat affordable food here. The restaurant is only borderline goose egg eligible, pushing this into the one star arena, where the case to be made is really decent food in The One Star Restaurant of the Future. Who's ready? It's dicey, but we're taking the one star bet.
