Crowds amassed last night at Craftsteak for the viewing of Top Chef Season 5’s premiere episode. The draw? Tom Colicchio himself was dining among the commoners (although not at the same table) along with Gail Simmons and a few other non-notables. One might have expected throngs of giddy fans to encroach on TC’s meal with camera phones and cookbooks, but alas, it was all too civilized. At least audience reactions made the viewing much more entertaining. UPDATE: Also at the table with big Tom: Kate Krader, Ken Friedman, Damon Wise, Bravo exec Andy Cohen and, rumored but not confirmed, several Top Chef contestants. [EaterWire]
