New, 3 comments

MIDTOWN— Earlier today Gastrodamus (lord, we hate writing that) mentioned ex-Bar Fry chef Josh DeChellis would be taking over a major Midtown Spanish venture. We now learn that restaurant will be the rebirth of La Fonda del Sol in the MetLife building. The original was one of the first big themed, and kitschy, restaurants to open in the 1960's. BARBERWORLD— Would Dan Barber be the next White House chef or spokesperson for sustainable food?: " a spokesperson, yes, I would be...I think there's a real opportunity to make these issues appeal to this wide swath of the American's been in the corner of the Eastern elite. It's been this elitist issue that's more expensive. It's the Alice Waters. And that's the worst thing that could happen to this movement." (NB: the post on the site now has pulled the sentence with the Waters reference.) [HuffPo]

CHELSEA— Guest of a Guest takes an early look at the renovations going on at Cain Luxe fka Cain: "The place is set to open with a grand party tomorrow night. And, even without the Mohair installed, the place already looked exciting. The black ebony floors, the tusks, the light detailing?.no expenses were spared." [GoaG]

TIMES SQUARE— Some signage for the upcoming Schnipper's, "coming soon" to the New York Times Building. Before you get too excited, note it is a new concept by the people of Hale & Hearty Soup. UPDATE: The owners are formerly of Hale & Hearty and they say, "be excited. Be very excited." [EaterWire]

WASHINGTON DC— Top Chef's Spike has gotten on that whole name a food item after each candidate bandwagon and now has and Obama Burger and a McCain Burger. Obama is winning 717 to 257. [Mona's Apple]
