Meanwhile, On the BruniBlog

Frank Bruni launches a new feature through which he'll chronicle the oddities of the New York eating scene. Oddity #0001: "...the other day, when visiting Levain, I noticed a sign on the front door...The sign asked people to “leave the door slightly ajar.” But it didn’t stop there. It went on, appending a parenthetical. To transcribe it more fully, it asked people to “leave the door slightly ajar (a bit open).” Just like that. If you’re going to define “slightly ajar,” why not just go straight to the definition? Why not just ask people to “leave the door a bit open?” [Bruniblog]
