Eater Inside: Kingswood

Kalina, 9/17/07.

2007_09_jefferson.jpgWe come now to Kingswood, the Aussie restaurant that's replaced Jefferson (right) in the West Village. Serious credit is due the design team at Kingswood, who realized that fake back windows go a lot farther than glossy synthetic in making a restaurant feel warm and welcoming (again, Jefferson before photo inset). The name owner of this one is Nick Mathers (Ruby's), who is also planning a lounge downstairs. Food is somewhere between bistro and haute neighborhood type fare, and time will tell if the menu in its current state works. The large bar in front (below) will draw in some locals and annoy others, with the noise, but signs overall point to this concept working. We shall see.
