EaterWire AM Edition: Chophouse's $86 Porterhouse, Mercat Shakeup

[Above, outdoors at new West Villager Bobo, via a tipster. Why? Just because.]

PARK AVENUE SOUTH—Here's a little fresh plywoody buzz about restaurateur Steve Hanson's latest: "Stopped off at Primehouse to check on the progress. The hostess said they'd be open October 1st [confirmed—ed.] Inside, the place is bright, with a lot of marble (visual pun, perhaps?). According to the preview menu, the porterhouse for two is listed at $86. That's gotta be a record. Also, they've apparently adopted their own bull, but I don't know if it will a breeder. This place will get all the CSFB business, and hopefully shutter Porcao. Hooray for expense accounts." [EaterWire Inbox]

NOHO—Unconfirmed kitchen gossip, via a source clearly on one side of some sort of conflagration: "Word has it there has been a major falling out at Mercat on Bond street. Apparently the top talent in the whole joint Dave Siegel (formerly of Jean Georges, Alain Ducasse and Bouley) has left. Surely this rising star will pop up again somewhere soon." [EaterWire Inbox]
