Grayz: The Menu Revealed

Grayz, Gray Kunz's new midtown restaurant, long the subject of anticipation and curiosity, is now open for dinner, Monday to Saturday 5 P - 12 AM (it is not yet open for lunch). What exactly the chef is cooking has been one of the key questions here from the start. Plus, Kunz's concept of bar snacks and private dining as the only two options doesn't give one much by way of understanding how this is a proper restaurant. But, then, now we have the menu and these questions are now somewhat answered. The short of it is that this menu is a lot closer to actual food than had been advertised. But do note, by small plates, the chef does mean small plates. From a recent sidebar we had with Stephanie Faison, the restaurants press rep: "Actually, the "small plates" refers to portion size. The service pieces are almost entirely custom-designed by Gray, so, for example, the salmon comes presented on silver spoons, each of two, four, six and so forth spoons resting on a lovely wooden presenter." Lovely.
