MADISON PARK/PARK SOUTH—Alex Urena will close Urena, his Madison Park/Park South area restaurant, and revamp it into a more casual bistro-style eatery called Pamplona. The year-and-a-half old Urena, two-starred by the Bruni and Alex's first serious solo effort, will close after dinner service on August 18th, all this according to his official spokeswoman, Gail Schoenberg. Here's the statement she's issued:
Chef Owner Alex Urena will close the doors of Urena restaurant after service on August 18th, 2007 to open PAMPLONA on September 4th, 2007.
Chef Urena will be serving bistro style, Basque country food in the newly revamped 50-seat dining room and 20-seat bar. Fans of Urena will not have to travel far to the new restaurant, as it will inhabit the same space on 37 E. 28th Street, between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue.
Stepping away from fine dining and exploring the casual nuances of a bistro restaurant is a step in the right direction for a young, talented chef like Alex Urena. "Bistro food is a simple way to reflect my personal style of cooking. It's in fashion now and I am excited to transition from a fine dining restaurant to a laid back, fun bistro," says Chef Urena. Lower price points and updated, chic new decor make PAMPLONA the latest addition to this ever-changing neighborhood.
