EAST VILLAGE—More news about the shuttering of Ninth Street Espresso's 13th Street outpost, from owner Kenneth Nye: "Actually [Ninth Street Espresso] is not 'closing'... we are turning it over to one of our Baristi. His name is Ed H. and he has been pulling shots at NSE for a couple of years. Ed expressed an interest in owning his own shop at some point, and the timing just kinda worked out. As far as my reasons for selling, this location would be better served by a more 'general purpose' cafe... more food, drip coffee etc. Our model has become very specialized and I do not feel that we were maximizing on the potential of this location....Ed will do the space justice." WEST VILLAGE—A follow-up call, in regards to yesterday's 'Wire post about what exactly was going on at French bistro Jarnac, yielded the following information about the restaurant: They had to shut down briefly due to flood damage, but will be open again starting tonight. Then, the restaurant will be closed again from August 26th through September 3rd for their annual summer vacation. We're assuming that after the 3rd, it'll be business as normal. [EaterWire]
