EaterWire AM Edition: Punch & Judy Triple-Confirmed Done

LOWER EAST SIDE—We're finally ready to pronounce dead Lower East Side wine bar Punch & Judy. Once a Clinton Street pioneer, but much more of a sob story of late, here's how it ends: "I heard confirmation last night from staff at Clinton Street's Punch & Judy that the bar is closed permanently due to an expired liquor license. The owners, whose efforts are now concentrated on the Volstead, can't sell to prospective buyers--if any exist--until they straighten out their license problems, so the bar is technically "open" until the SLA issues a new license. The grates are going to remain down forever, though, so P&J's officially dead." [EaterWire Inbox]
