MEATPACKING—Breaking news, from a tipster, "As of 5 PM this afternoon, Wednesday, May 30 Chef Michael Schulson of Buddakan gave his notice." If this is indeed true, it's a big deal: Schulson has worked with restaurateur Stephen Starr for years; before Buddakan NYC, he cooked at the original Buddakan in Philly as well as Starr's eatery Pod. We're out to Starr & Co. for comment. [EaterWire Inbox]
FLATIRON—Yesterday, we noted that Park Ave So Greek restaurant Parea had a new executive chef, Brian Goodman, meaning that former kitchen head Jonathon Sawyer had either (a) left or (b) been fired. Via a note from Sawyer himself, we learn it was the former, "I just wanted to confirm that I did leave Parea to open my own restaurant. I am currently in the process of opening Gastropub, the first Green restaurant in Ohio as well as the first farm to plate gastropub in Cleveland. We moved back to Cleveland after my wife and I found out that we are expecting our second child. I miss and love New York City and wish Brian Goodman the best of luck." [EaterWire]
PARK SLOPE—A missive from the chef of Rose Water, "My name is Ethan Kostbar, Chef of Rose Water restaurant in Park Slope Brooklyn. I will be leaving in a couple of weeks...I recently accepted a job in Westport CT. as Chef de Cuisine at the Dressing Room, which is owned by Paul Newman and chef Michel Nischan. I want to first express my gratitude to John Tucker, owner of Rose Water Restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn NY. My experience with his business was filled with growth, education, and nothing but fond memories. I wish him, his family, and Rose Water nothing but continued success." [EaterWire]
FORT GREENE—According to a tipster, the DOH has paid a visit to South African restaurant Madiba, "Walked by last night. Madiba has been doh'd. They have their own sign under the DOH sign saying a pipe broke and that they'll be open in two days. Who knows." A call to the restaurant confirms that they hope to be open by Friday night, and are currently "painting the floors and doing some cleaning up." [EaterWire Inbox]
