Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Resto, the new interpreted-Belgium restaurant in the Park South corridor. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 4-1The most discipled gamblers will play this one by the book and take the one star action today. What we have here is a very small restaurant, 'cozier' than expected, in the Bruni's own words. This is the kind of place, dancing the fine line between $25 and Under and Restaurants, at which the Bruni likes to throw a star (The Robs gave it four). By the books, in fact, zero stars is the second most likely outcome, again, because it's good food in a modest room. But, and here's where this one gets dicey, this is exactly the kind of restaurant susceptible to the Bruni X factor—his soft spot for the surprise of a modest room done much better than it has any business doing. So, Eater, the un-disciplined bettor that we are (see also: Four Seasons), is taking a glowing two stars and expecting particular emphasis on the virtues of diminutive venues.
