Times Revives Diner's Journal as Dining Briefs, Cuts $25 and Under by Half

In his most drastic move since taking over as dining section editor, Pete Wells has reorganized the review page of the section. Now, $25 and Under (anachronistic name in tact, by the way) will share the second half of the Restaurants page with a column called Dining Briefs, which offer "short reviews that include first looks at new restaurants, quick updates on places that have been reviewed or overlooked, and critiques of bars and lounges that offer noteworthy drinks and food." In this debut week, they've got shorties on Gilt, Natsumi, Barcade, written by, respectively, Frank Bruni, Wells himself and Peter Meehan, who continues to file $25 and Under in alternating weeks. Venues that appear here are still eligible for longer reviews, of course, which does make this a hipper, more agile Diner's Journal.
