EaterWire VITAL UPDATE: Chumley's Chimney Being Dismantled Brick-by-Brick; Six Month Restoration Underway

WEST VILLAGE—Following the partial collapse of the chimney inside Chumley's last month, work began today on a months-long process to dismantle the entire chimney at 86 Bedford Street. The process is being done, literally, brick-by-brick, due to the building's extremely precarious structural state. An official on the scene who did not want to be identified said that the process would take several months, if not longer, assuming all went well. He did confirm that the building was at this time not in danger of total collapse or having to be razed. When the construction job is done, Chumley's will be safe, but sans its adored chimney.
