The Shutter: Aegean & Maristella (Post-Mortem)

The Shutter reports on restaurant, bar, and club closings around town. Witnessed death first-hand? Drop us an email.

2007_04_aegean.jpg1) Upper West Side: A reader emails, "Aegean, a somewhat venerable Greek restaurant on Columbus Avenue and 70th Street, has closed. There are for rent signs, and the space is stripped. I will miss their bar scene, where writers would drink scotch and eat calamari." [Shutter Inbox, photo courtesy Yelp]

2) Midtown West: We're late to this one, but a reader seeks intel, and we are here to help: "I recently heard that the Italian restaurant, Maristella (W. 55th between 6th and 5th) is closed! I have searched for information on this as it was one of my favorites, and came up empty handed. Do you have any information on when it closed (early 2007?) and why?" Anyone know more about this long gone, but not forgotten, joint? [Shutter Inbox]
