BruniBetting: Morandi

Morandi, Wendesday 4/18, 4:15 PM: McNally and, with her back to camera, Jody Williams

Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Morandi, a venue that needs no introduction in these parts. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:

Zero Stars: 5-1
One Star: 2-1 ??
Two Stars: 6-1
Three Stars: 90-1
Four Stars: 25,000-1
And so the day has come for Keith McNally to meet with The Bruni. Only McNally himself and the Eater collective have dined at Morandi more times than the Bruni, who, we're told, has been somewhere between six and eight times. We can say with some confidence that this is the hardest call Mr. Bruni has had to make in recent memory. The people have spoken and deemed it a one star restaurant. There is also a two star arguement to be made for Morandi, especially at lunch, and no venue in recent memory has demonstrated a better ability to improve over time. Without question, Morandi is 100% better today than it was at open, when the food was an absolute mess, but still the zero star bet, especially at 5-1, isn't the worst move you could make. All in, going with the people, Eater is taking one star. Look for the Bruni to award non-star points for how much the kitchen has improved.
