EaterWire: The DOH Takes On Brooklyn And Manhattan

BOREUM HILL—Above, images of the recently shuttered Jamaican restaurant Brawta, closed, or should we say "Seized" by Feds. Per a tipster, "The orange sticker of doom at Brawta. Cheers!" [EaterWire Inbox]

MIDTOWN WEST—Has Mexican eatery El Centro been DOHed, or is there another reason for its recent closure? A reader writes, "Any idea what's up with El Centro on 9th and 54th? It's been closed two nights in a row, but I don't see anything on the door to indicate that it's from the Dept of Heath...." Owners say that they've closed the restaurant due to flood damage and will be reopening tonight “if all goes well.” Any mention of the DOH was met with explicit denial. [EaterWire Inbox]

NOHO—The DOH did pay a visit to Johnny Rockets on 8th and Greene, as a reader writes in to announce the place's temporary closure. "I just had a coworker who was going to Johnny Rockets for lunch around 1PM. As they were walking in the DOH was standing outside, the workers were leaving, and they were putting chairs on the tables. Then they slapped the infamous Yellow Sign on the door. " [EaterWire Inbox]

BOCOCA—Smith Street denizens have no love for Cafe Kai. Sayeth a tipster, "The vegan/vegetarian café on Smith St. is another victim of DOH. Not sad to see it go. Food wasn't great and the service was horrible (I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your reading by placing an order!). I hope it stays closed." [EaterWire Inbox]
