Joey Campanaro and Gabriel Stulman who own and operate the crown jewel neighborhood spot of the West Village, Little Owl, are teaming with Mike Price on his new venue at 54 Carmine Street. The restaurant will be called Market Table and will be a combination market and restaurant—a 40 seat casual venue is to share billing with a high-end boutique grocery and market. As Stulman put it to us yesterday, "You'll have to go through the market to get to the restaurant. Fresh meat, fish, and produce will be up front. Come in for dinner, then come back in the morning and pick up a few pounds of the cod you had the night before. If you liked how Mikey prepared it we'll give you the recipe and tell you how to cook it. This is a place where you can come in for live lobster, lobster meat, lobster salad, a lobster surf and turf or a lobster roll." Prices will be handwritten on brown paper; the space is being stripped down to its original brick and cast iron.
Mikey Price, who was his partner Joey Campanaro's sous chef at The Harrison, is the executive chef and all-around master of ceremonies at Market Table; Stulman and Joey C will back him with their experience and signature brand of West Village style hospitality. The venue is slated to open "late summer or early fall," per Stulman, and we'll be following progress closely. There will be at least one week in September to try it, before the 90-minute waits set in.
