Ollie's Workers To Sue Restaurant Over $1.40/Hr Wages

Last week it was the delivery workers at Saigon Grill who resorted to legal action as their employer allegedly mistreated them in a myriad ways. This week, the same staff subset but at Ollie's Noodle Shop on the Upper West Side are taking legal action against their bosses. Represented by the Urban Justice Center and the law firm of Shearman & Sterling, the workers are claiming all sorts of labor law violations, including being paid as little as $1.40 an hour. More:

While recent litigation has led to improved working conditions in Chinatown, Ollie’s restaurant owners continue to pay their workers sub-minimum wages. The lawsuit comes on the heels of several other recent cases against Asian eatery chains in Manhattan, including a suit filed against Saigon Grill Restaurant last week. Lawyers and advocates will announce plans for a dozen more suits to be filed in the following month as part of the Justice Will Be Served Campaign’s organizing effort, to expand from Chinatown to midtown and uptown Manhattan restaurants.
All this and more is to be announced by the workers and their attorneys live and in person in front of Ollie's tomorrow. Might be the right day to order from Shun Lee.
