Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews the Mediterranean brasserie Pera and Dennis Foy's Dennis Foy, two venues seemingly divergent that he will somehow tie together. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
PERASo, here we have two restaurants that have opened somewhat quietly in second tier locations and have chosen to focus their time and efforts on the plate. There are two chefs at Pera; at Dennis Foy, we've got a New York encore for Foy, two decades later (EQ doesn't really count). But the numerology aside, it's likely that Bruni is going to elevate the two under card openings based on each exceeding expectations. Pera has been pleasantly surprising people since it opened; at Dennis Foy's restaurant, there is a seasoned restaurateur and chef in the kitchen and he should have mastered the art of getting two stars by now. Though a one-star bet is very reasonable in either case, we're taking matching two-spots for the pair.
