During the Christmas season in New York, when the ratio of tourists to locals is 1:1, certain restaurants become completely impassable. One report we got yesterday, for example, is that the wait at the Spotted Pig on Monday night at 10 PM was two hours. Even by Spotted Pig standards, that's a serious hold up. Another such place is the breakfast wonderland Norma's, in the Parker Meridian Hotel. Most weekends you're looking at 30-45 minutes during prime time, but between Thanksgiving and New Year's that wait time quote often balloons to a Pig-like two hours. If there is an upside to this, however, it is that the tourists will be the guinea pig testers on Norma's new menu items.
Indeed, folks, as they do only a few times a year, Norma's has added items to their menu. And the new dishes are: Hot Chestnut Pancakes, a "PC&C Waffle 'Wich" (described on the menu as "Chocolate Waffle with a Peanut Butter and Toffee Crunch Filling), Breakfast Nachos, a Buckwheat Gallette, and Bougatsa ("Vanilla Custard in Shredded Phyllo Dough with Pistachios and Peaches"). New breakfast and lunch menus, still designed mostly to put you in a sugar coma, are just below for your reference. Come January, we'll see you there.
