Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Allen & Delancey, Neil Ferguson's new restaurant on the Lower East Side. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 5-1Let's get the inside baseball out of the way first. This is the third week in four that a restaurant repped by Jennifer Baum is getting the Bruni treatment. She saved Tailor from a goose egg two weeks ago and, we believe, played a supporting role in getting Fiamma its three-bagger last week. So, to the extent that she's in the Bruni's ear or is just good at making sure the restaurant puts its best foot forward, Allen & Delancey starts off with an edge.
One Star: 2-1 ??
Two Stars: 4-1
Three Stars: 7-1
Four Stars: 25,000-1
That being said, Ferguson got two stars at Gordon Ramsay and it was a stubborn, unenthusiastic two stars there. The food at Allen & Delancey is dressed down, a fact that could work for or against it, and the digs are quite a bit more inspired, but our gut this week is that these things are not going to get it more that a star. And Baum's particular brand of expertise is enough to keep us from betting on The Zlich. So, Eater is taking one star. Big money, big money.
