According to Eater sources, the famous society clubhouse La Goulue, a fixture on Madison Avenue since 1972 and the proud owner of a Michelin star, will close early next year. Its lease at 746 Madison will expire and facing a very substantial rent increase the bistro owners are planning to close down their New York flagship (hat tip to the Cuozzo, who noted uncertainty back in June). Do note that this rather serious news has not yet been confirmed by restaurant ownership; staffers at La Goulue headquarters were shocked to hear the news when we called for comment, one saying, "thanks for letting us know." But it seems quite likely the clock is ticking fast and that this is for real, so you may want to book one last overpriced but annoyingly pleasing meal now.
