1) Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries: Patty parlor Five Guys continues its slow-but-steady takeover of NYC with a new midtown location. The photo at right comes to you from Midtown Lunch, who is of course thrilled at the development. His on-the-scene reporting from the eatery's debut earlier today: "Wow, sheer and utter pandemonium. Ordered around 1:15pm. Got our food around 1:45pm. Madness. All anger disappeared after the first bite. Amazing?" 43 W 55th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves; (212) 459-9600 [Midtown Lunch; TONY]
2) Lunetta: Adam Shepard's second iteration of his slightly-precious Smith Street Italian restaurant has opened in the Flatiron District. The eatery replaced Mayrose; expect rustic pastas (like cavatelli with braised lamb, cream and pecorino) and entrees (Flying Pig porchetta with lentils). With this opening, have Shepard's plans for Taku have been tabled permanently? 920 Broadway at 21st St; (212) 533-3663 [Eater Staff]
3) Community Food & Juice: The owners of culty brunch spot Clinton Street Baking Company have planted an eco-friendly restaurant on the UWS. According to Andrea Strong, the place will be serving a locally-sourced, seasonal menu of hearty dishes like Berkshire pork tenderloin with grilled cornbread stuffing and grilled pizza with roasted mushrooms, fontina and garlic-rosemary oil, and of course, heaping platefuls of pancakes and egg dishes for brunch. The restaurant was scheduled to open today, but at press time, no one was answering the phone. 2893 Broadway between 112th and 113th Sts; (212) 665-2800 [Cutlets; Jaunted; Strongbuzz]
4) ilili: Palindromically-named Lebanese spot ilili may be open earlier than anticipated. An Eater operative writes: "Looks like Ilili is doing a little private Halloween shindig tonight. Soft opening? Pre-preview? All I know is there's 2 doormen and half a dozen Russian models dressed in slutty costumes standing outside." 236 Fifth Ave between 27th and 28th Sts; (212) 683-2929 [Eater Inbox]
5) Mason Dixon: Manhattan gets its second mechanical bull with the opening of LES bar czars Rob and Will Shamlian's newest nightspot. The plywood vet was dishing drinks and offering half-price bull rides last night. 133 Essex St between Rivington and Stanton Sts; (no phone) [Eater Staff]
6) Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill: Brothers Bruce and Eric Bromberg continue to pepper the city with outposts of their Blue Ribbon empire. The latest is this swank eatery located inside boutique hotel 6 Columbus. It's just a teensy bit bigger than their last effort, Blue Ribbon Downing Street. The Bromberg's describe it thusly: "This new oasis will be a classic Blue Ribbon Sushi merged with our traditional Brasserie, featuring bone-in rib steak with teriyaki sauce to whole grilled Dorade with radish salad. All served with the typical Blue Ribbon commitment to your first class experience as our guests." 6 Columbus Cl at Eighth Ave; (212) 397-0404 [Flo Fab; Zagat]
