Tomorrow, Frank Bruni reviews Centro Vinoteca, Sasha Muniak's new Italian restaurant in the West Village, with a kitchen helmed by Anne Burrell. Today, the Eater oddsmakers have set the action as follows:
Zero Stars: 5-1Is the Bruni going to drop a two-bagger for a second consecutive week? The buzz on this restaurant is generally very positive—the RG loved it, Platt liked it—but the unknown is the extent to which the Bruni is going to slap the restaurant for being too sceney and too pricey for what's coming out on the plate. Then, there is the Batali factor working in the other direction. While just on TV, Burrell cooked with the Molto Man and the Bruni is quite fond of him. And the one sidebar matter that could prove interesting is that Gusto, Sasha Muniak's previous, arguably better, West Village Italian, was never reviewed. To an extent we may see the big man dig in on that restaurant just a bit, too. This one is going to be very close, and again we have a scenario where stats don't quite tell the whole story. But in the end, we're calling it for two stars.
