Eater Inside: Planethailand212

[Kalina, 6/7/06.]

Here now is the Manhattan outpost of Brooklyn Thai and Asian fave Planet Thailand, Planethailand212. The 5,000 sq ft Flatiron installation is by design house Visual Mixology with video installations by Jon Kessler. Said video installations promise to, per official materials, amuse "unassuming patrons as they enter PT212 and are captured "live" on camera, finding themselves magically transported into multiple screens depicting travel scenes, living art and culinary delights from around the globe." (Apparently, an evolution of that special thing that Brasserie does.)

212 is owned by Anna Pop, who issues these fighting words to Stephen Starr: "As a long-time New Yorker, I am a proponent of style and substance over a more ostentatious trend currently witnessed in Thai and Asian cuisine being played out in Manhattan nightlife on the Westside." Snap.
